Stan Bowles Charity Pairs hosted at Black Swan Bowling Club on Sunday 22nd August.
The Harrogate Amateur Bowling Association providing £150 from clubs membership subscriptions towards the Stan Bowles Charity Pairs event, that provided a free entry for a club team. Additional entries were £10 a team and all food and refreshment profits were added to the pay out including additional donations this resulted in around £300 being added to the Stan Bowles Alzheimer’s Research UK donations.
17 pairs competed on the day and the longest game of the day (typically) was the one prelim with Ali Wales & Alex Watson (Burley in Wharfedale) defeating Colin Hargreaves & Nigel Stockdale 21.17 after nearly 2 hours on the green. Their reward was to play homesters Tony Derrick and Tom Beecroft and the Swan pair eased through with a 21.16 win.
Chapel Streets, Dale Hardcastle & Kyle Rennison won a tough encounter with Knaresborough’s Paul Passman & Kevin Ibbottson 21.17 and then in the quarter final they saw off the home challenge of Derrick and Beecroft with a 21.12 win. Andy Dodsworth & Mandy Wilson of Bardsey were bowling well to reach the semi-final but again the Chapel Street pair bowling consistently well saw off their challenge winning a tough game 21.17.
In the bottom half of the draw the Skipton pair Les Foster & Peter Shaw started very strongly with a good win over Wetherby pair Alex May & Lesley Hollaran before making a big comeback to defeat Bardsey’s Andy Lloyd & Dave Gooch. The other Chapel Street pair Neil Wood Junior and David Lightfoot were also bowling well defeating Wayside’s Mary Mason & Joan Forbes and then Almscliffe’s Richard Chester and Steve Freer. The Chapel street pair continued their good form to win the semi-final 21.14 against the Skipton pair and set up an all Chapel Street final.
There was some excellent bowling on display but Hardcastle & Rennison bowled consistently and beat their team mates 21.14 to pick up the winners prize.
Thanks to the Harrogate ABA for their kind donation and everyone who took part in the Stan Bowles Charity Pairs, an excellent days bowling to raise £300 for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
